Can I put the Satellite account on hold for 5 weeks while we are traveling and will not use the service?

My husband, Robert (Edited per community guidelines), was a long term ATT & Direct TV Manager. When he recently quit, the company changed him from an employee account (free) to a customer account without notifying us, or obtaining our agreement, and now we have a bill that needs to be removed.
