Streaming Setup & Equipment

I just bought a new Samsung TV and use an optical cable to hookup my Bose sound system. Every few minutes the sound stops working for a few seconds then comes back on. Frustrating. I am an I.T. guy and have tried all the "first steps" of changing cables, testing connections, etc. What is the issue?

I have a Bose lifestyle 600 the directv gemini remote controls everything but will not turn the lifestyle 600 on. Volume and turning off the lifestyle 600 works perfectly but the directv Gemini will not turn the lifestyle 600 on. Any suggestions?
