WY do I need box for directv stream

We have had direct stream for a week and when we first got it the voice command on the remote worked but it hasn’t worked for the past 3 days.

I thought I had done enough research to determine that DirecTV stream was the service I wanted. Now they throw in DIRECTV internet with ARS at an additional cost of $15. Now I’m back to square one. Confused!!
