Freezes several times a day. Checked and restarted everything including modem. Even have a new box. Ethernet connected. Green band on cables. What else should I do.

I've had an 8TB eSATA drive for HR24 Genie. The drive failed after about 8 years. I can no longer find a replacement- apparently eSATA drives are no longer available. Can I use a USB 3.0 drive with an eSATA converter cable? USB3.0 in the drive port, eSATA in the HR24 port. Will this work?

When direct TV is on, Sony apps switch back to TV in less than a minute. Also Sony setting screen revert to TV within minutes. With DT box off apps work fine. I restarted the DT box and it works fine until I turn it off and then back on. Then its back to reverting.
