Issues / Comments With DirecTv Streaming

Hi.  I've had DirecTv Streaming for a few weeks now and thought I'd post my initial impressions & issues.  FWIW - I'm using DirecTv streaming boxes.  I don't see a lot of activity on this forum but here I go anyway.....

Pros:

1) Video quality is quite good.

2) Menu navigation is reasonably quick.

3) The Guide & access to the main menu are good.

Cons:

1) Watching a recorded program that hasn't finished, there is no indicator showing how far you are behind "live".

2) The fast forward view should be full screen, not the 1/4-sized picture-in-picture.

3) When you press "Play" to exit fast-forwarding the program overshoots.  I'm seeing about 30 sec. overshoot in FF2.

4) Recordings don't always resume where you stopped watching them.

5) There is no way to advance a recording quickly, i.e. in segments.

6) There is no way to record a program past the originally scheduled time.  Sports programs are supposed to automatically adjust the stop time if the game / match runs long.

7) The DirecTv remote directional pad isn't easy to "feel".

My hope is that they are working to correct at least some of these issues.

Hey, @hiltsy855. It's great to hear you're enjoying the video quality, menu speed, and overall guide navigation. We're actively working on enhancements to address many of the points you raised, and we'll look into these for consideration in future updates. Thanks for your feedback! 💙Rizza, DIRECTV Community Team

Thanks DirecTv, I hope someone is actually listening.  DirecTv satellite functionality was very refined but it took years to develop.  For a time I was actually in a Beta Release Group where we'd download and review software releases before they went public.  I was hoping something like that existed for streaming but I haven't found anything.

One more issue to add to my "cons":

8) When fast-forwarding if you press the "rewind" button the program should drop back one step instead of going directly to rewind.  For example:  if you are in FF3 and you press rewind it should drop back to FF2.

We’re grateful for your time and collaboration in the Beta Release Group. That's another great idea! We'll surely pass it to our team for review. Rizza, DIRECTV Community Team

Here's another issue:

9) If you record a Series that has a lot of programs there is no way to quickly get to the first (oldest) recording.  The only way to get there is to hold down the scroll button and advance one program at a time until you get to the end.  This might take more that a minute.

My issue #4 is quite annoying:

4) Recordings don't always resume where you stopped watching them.

I can confirm this happens often, but only when I pick the program from the DVR List.  If I'm jumping back & forth between 2 recorded programs (using "Prev" button) they both restart where I left them.  If I try to pick a program from the DVR List the option to "Resume" isn't always there.

Thank you for letting us know. Could you please share which programs you noticed the 'Resume' option is not showing up in your DVR list? John, DIRECTV Community Team

I was going between the Iowa vs. Oregon and ISU vs. TCU football games.  Both games were in progress as I was watching them.

Thanks for the info. Is the 'Resume' option still unavailable when watching the recording, even though the games have ended? John, DIRECTV Community Team

trying to watch latest recorded episode of “Ghosts” s5e4, and am getting this message:

”the owner of this content has not made it available to stream in this area”

this not accurate - we have been watching this channel’s recorded shows regularly with no issue. we did not recently change our IP or user info either.

please get your effing-shiot together

in fact i can watch all the previous recordings from this same network.  so only the Ghosts S5E4 candidate has an issue. please fix this.

The video provider (in this case CBS) hosts the content server.  If only one episode doesn't work, this pretty much guarantees the issue is with how that particular episode is configured on the content server, by CBS.  DIRECTV could pass on your concern to CBS, but the likelihood seems low that enough care can be manifested on all parties to get this fixed.  Which is unfortunate.

I have the same issue tonight ("Resume" option not available) watching the MNF game.  I'll do some more testing to see if the "Resume" option is available after the recording is complete, I have a feeling it will be.  But that certainly should not make a difference.  I should be able stop & restart any recording where I left it.

We've forwarded your feedback to our team for investigation. If the 'Resume' option still doesn't appear in the DVR list after the game has ended, please let us know, so we can share additional details with our team. We'll keep you updated on any developments. We appreciate your help in improving our service. Charles, DIRECTV Community Team

If you don't see a "resume" button go to "more ways to watch" then click the show you were watching there is a progress bar on the thumbnail and it will resume.
