HDR issues with SD Channels with Gemini Device

With HDR switch on in settings on Gemini Air Streaming device, all channels are forced HDR. SD channels are dark and colors over saturated. There are only two DIRECTTV channels that are HDR capable which are the two 4K channels. Yes you can turn HDR on and off but, inconvenient to do so because you need to reboot the device every time you switch HDR on and off.

Apps like Netflix, Hulu and Paramount+ utilize HDR and Dolby Vision and the convenience of being able to access these apps through the Gemini Air Device is a plus instead of going to and outside streaming device but you need to go and turn on HDR and reboot device and then go in and shut off HDR to watch SD channels, rebooting again.

The Gemini Air Streaming device needs a "Match Format" addition to the software in order to auto detect when HDR content is available and can automatically switch HDR on and off.  Most streaming devices have this built in.

I've had my Gemini Air device replaced after calling customer service and still have this issue. My television is set up properly regarding HDMI cables and HDMI settings. Have tried on several of my tv's and come up with same issue on all.

Hopefully the Research and Development department are aware and correct this issue. I know this is a known issue because have read other posts with same complaint.

I feel if your paying $10 a month for a device, it should preform properly. Gemini Air Stream is a great device, convenient and works well. Its very close to current cable equipment. Just needs this fix.

Is there an update on DIRECTV adding "Match Content Dynamic Range" capabilities on the Gemini? We added a Gemini co-locate to our Genie HR54-700 setup about two weeks ago. Overall we like the device, but right away it was obvious that without it SDR content playing in HDR is washed-out and/or has overly saturated colors (particularly skin tones).

Further, it appears that the workaround to turn HDR on and off was eliminated in a software update. That said, as @jlww103 previously stated it would be very inconvenient to do so (as you need to reboot the device every time you switch HDR on and off).

Other streaming devices like Apple TV and Android TV already have the feature, so I would think technically it should be possible. As a longtime customer (since 1995), I appreciate that DIRECTV has continued to update and improve devices, software and services. I believe adding this capability would be very well received by your customers (both current and potential future ones)!
