Guide is wrong so wrong episodes record

I am having trouble getting the episodes I want to record on several shows. I have SNL set a a series to record NEW ONLY but because the guide puts up a generic title on the Prime Time episode it records those too even though they are years old. Now there is some channel that I never saw before called SNL Vault and it is recording EVERY episode on that channel. It does the same thing for The Simpsons and Family Guy. It records old reruns because of the generic titles and no dates.

I have a similar problem with football and baseball. I set my team and set the series but if a game is on several channels it doesn't record the game on my 'Home" channel but on some other that might be with the other teams coverage. For instance the Astros are on SpaceCity Network but when they play the Rangers it will record on the Rangers coverage. Or football it will record that horrible Prime Cast or the one with Payton and Eli babbling through the whole show and not the regular game that I had set. Is there a way to override this or to set a recording manually just by day and time and channel like I was able to do with Uverse and I think also with Dish? Obviously whoever made the recording program never used it so they don't know the issues.
