What exactly are you trying to do?

What equipment (model numbers) are you connecting?

Need more details, please.

Why are you using composite cableS if your TV has HDMI?

@shannon02

Previously you helped guide them recording from an HR54 to an external device. My guess is composite cables to get around HDCP restrictions and then upscale to get close to HD quality.

Perhaps time to buy the DVD/BluRay or official digital download to make it easy and not have any authorization concerns (since you don't own the content, it is tied to DirecTV service on 'leased' equipment, it might be technically a form of stealing).

The OP said inputs on a TV.

@shannon02

If it is just HR54 to a TV that has HDMI, no other device in the mix, then it doesn't make sense not to use HDMI. Was just suspecting from their prior threads on a possibility.

@valforu21

HR54 has HDMI output since it is HD to begin with.

Why not connect directly to your TV by HDMI as intended? Why downgrade with A/V cables and then artificially upscale back up? That seems extra work to get a lower quality experience.

my yellow, white and red (video imputs) on the back of my tv stop working

i brought this AV To HDMI-compatible Scaler Adapter HD Video Composite Converter. i can't get it to work. has anyone had a problem like this. i think lightning struck my tv because the day before i heard a pop on the roof. then everything went haywire. my house phone ,computer  and tv went out for awhile . when i got them back working my video imputs on the back of my tv will not work now. the red, white and yellow cords is what i use for my dvd recorder. can anyone help me.

Note: This comment was created from a merged conversation originally titled my yellow, white and red (video imputs) on the back of my tv stop working

Sounds like lightning or other power surge may have fried it.

Perhaps get another convertor to test, just be aware of the return policy if it turns out the TV is the problem.

Where confusion is that you were using an HR54, downscaling the video with the A/V cable and then upscaling back which doesn't make sense. Normally you just connect HDMI from HR54 to TV, easy peasy.

Since you have a custom setup, so all specific guidance may be provided, why are you adding another link in the chain to the TV instead of directly by HDMI? Knowing that perhaps other suggestions could be provided to fix the issue or find a better alternative.

Are you sure it is the inputs and not the DVD recorder that is bad?

i am sure. the lighting struck something. i heard a pop and my house phone went out and the tv and dvd recorder. when i turned them back on i had no picture or sound work on my tv. i called the cable man, he said my video imput went out. he said i have to use hdmi. so he ran a hdmi cord to my cable box and my tv. so then i had a picture and sound but when i record something it will not format it. it's not working with my dvd recorder. i ran my recorder through the video imput, my video imput is shot. that's why the cable guy use the hdmi. the only thing i use the hdmi for is firestick. i can get my recorder to record through that way, but it's not letting me format. when i try to record i get a blue screen first, then it can't record on this disc. some of the discs are brand new discs. i have tried over a dozen disc, and i get nothing.
