Just signed up for Satellite service. Is there a list of channels that are available to stream that I dont need my wired box for.
Hi, I Just signed up for satellite service. I went with 3 wired boxes because I wasn't sure if the Gemini was right for me. I have 3 TVs that I would like a box on and 3 others that I don't necessarily need a box on because they aren't used as frequently. My question is did I make the right choice going for the wired boxes, any idea which boxes they are sending? The other question is there a list of channels that I can stream without a box? Kind of would like to stream a certain sports channel Space City network. For the TVs that won't be getting a box, I will be using Apple TV and Nvidia shields. The reason I wanted wired devices for the 3 main TVs is that I am afraid of delay when using wireless, I watch a lot of sports and hate getting texts ruining the next play, that's why I switched to satellite from YouTubeTV.

Whether wired or wireless, you are getting the same channels from the satellite. The wireless is just getting info from your main box via a wireless video bridge (WVB).
If your Genie is connected to your home internet, then all boxes (again wired or wireless) get On Demand. This is an online library for many of your channels. In the guide, you see a + sign next to the network name if it has an on demand version. Also the channel is in the 1000s, so SyFy 244 has SyFy On Demand 1244.
There is not dedicated list of what channels have On Demand, or the handful of channels that are On Demand only (i.e. The Anime Network 1889).
Be aware that many channels disable FF/REW for On Demand. Also some of them have started adding in PPV options to it as well, while still providing free content along side it, to capitalize on binge watchers.
The Gemini (C71WK) is unique that it is also a streaming box (similar to Roku, Firestick, etc.) so that you can download apps to it to stream other services. Makes it convenient that you don't have to change inputs.
Wired is more reliable than wireless per the nature of the technology. So I have stuck with wired for the best experience.
Keep in mind those little boxes be it Mini Genie or Gemini are Clients (model starts with 'C'). They each take a tuner from the main box and cannot work without it. Think of it as all those TVs are using one box. If you have the Genie-2 (HS17) than you may only have Clients, but if you have the regular Genie line (last one HR54) than you can have HDDVR and HD non-DVR receivers wired in if needed.

Thanks for the response. I believe they are sending genie mini for the 2 non-living room TVs. The order also says genie with a price listing of 299, I don't know if that narrows down the equipment I will know for sure on installation this midweek.

Most but not all of the channels in you DTV sat package can be streamed to the DTV app. You will most likely get an HS17 Genie2 with 3 mini clients probably C61 but there are other versions C41,C51 all depends on what the tech has on the truck.
Not sure if sporting channels can be streamed.

Gotcha, My other question I don't think I included, was when I am away from home at the gym I watch TV on my iPad mini. Will I be able to watch stuff I have on my DVR when I am away from home? not a dealbreaker but would be a cool feature to have.

Streaming DVR out of home was removed quite some time ago. It is a feature many would like to see again, but has shown no sign of returning. They did just replace the legacy DirecTV app so will have to see what happens in the coming years. Keep an ear out for any changes on this, just don't hold your breath on it.

DTV has said they will return streaming from the DVR and downloading to a mobile device sometime in the future. You will be able to stream channels. I think the HS17 Genie 2 cost is $399 so you maybe getting an HR54 and 2 minis. Because the HS17 Genie2 account only allows clients and is not connected to any TV it requires 3 mini clients.
