Local ABC stations - when will they return? If they are not, and soon, I will be cancelling my Directv service.
I chose Directv over others because of what was included. If Directv isn’t going to deliver then I don’t need it.
And no! I am not getting another device just to be able to get local channels. If I do I will stream all other channels I watch and save the money I currently spend pat ATT/Directv.
Long term customer.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this channel negotiation, and we don't want to see you go. DIRECTV continues to fight hard to shield customers from unnecessary multi-year rate increases for the same shows or events that remain available for free over the air. Please check TVPromise.com for updates. We'll send you a PM to review your options. Gabriel, DIRECTV Community Specialist

Your local ABC station will return when the channel owner allows it upon negotiations completing. Nobody knows when two entities will come to an agreement as that would be predicting the future.
Channel owner wants to raise cost even further than TV provider views as reasonable. Remember the higher the channel owner charges, the higher our bills go up during the next price adjustment. This situation is the same regardless if you are a long-term or brand new customer.
Not a single local channel is guaranteed with any TV provider. They don't own them so cannot promise they will always be there. A regular antenna allows you to get the free broadcast and for some areas additional channels DirecTV doesn't carry (such as sub-channels). It is simply an option to protect yourself during carriage negotiations as they will happen again in the future, and you might get some additional content to enjoy with it. If you don't want to use that option then that is up to you. We are only suggesting it as an alternative during these annoying negotiation times.

There's really nothing to do about it. No service can give you CBS, NBC and ABC and all the channels you get on a provider like DirecTV. My complaint is with the NFL selling their games piecemeal to as many different providers as they can, which makes it nearly impossible for anyone without a lot of discretionary cash to be able to get every game. They're going to be selling playoff games this year to Peacock as well as ESPN+ so we're going to need all the streaming platforms we can get even after the war with ABC is resolved.
