Closed captioning
Since DTV apparently has no valid complaint line I am posting this on the forum. Closed captioning DTV provides is useless. It misses over half of whatever is being said on screen. Since we need closed captioning DTV is becoming useless to us and likely to many hard of hearing users. We note that Netflix, Amazon and other online services are fully functional and miss nothing. If there is not improvement soon we will likely cancel.

Let's see if we can get your closed captioning working, @wandglenon.
We recommend that you refresh your receiver, which will send authorizations to the receiver and channels. You can learn more about closed captioning. We suggest that you have it on the correct setting so that it will pick up every word.
Let us know if this helps.

DirecTV is infuriating
Closed captioning not working, then receiver and remote stopped working (old remote was indestructible - had worked for ten years). Customer SVC sent me new receiver and remote, talked me into a new plan, "just in case" she said. Then New remote stopped working "change batteries" said rep - cheap battery cover broke. Rep said she'd send a new one and suggested a repair plan "well worth the extra fee," said Rep. Now I have a new receiver, another new remote and the CC not working or works erratically. Go to settings - accessibility and if I change one of the CC setting (eg font size) it works for part of a movie, then stops. I am hearing impaired - need the CC. Getting ready to change to Dish - is it any better?

@donporter
If you want guidance on your CC issue, please start a fresh thread as this is from 2020. Include all details of the problem, including model of equipment.
The protection plan (what I assume you meant by "repair plan"), I find is not a good value. You pay more over time whether you use it or not than the one-time costs ($99 service call; $19.95 delivery replacement box; $15 remote control or cheaper through mass retailers). If you're using it often enough to make the plan cheaper, then something is seriously wrong.
