ACC Network displayed channel not authorized screen today

I went down to a regular sports bar hangout intent on watching today’s Virginia Tech football season opener against Virginia Military Institute on the ACC Network (channel 612) on their DirectTV feed.

This channel has reliably worked in the past few years without a problem.  However today, when the bartender used the remote control to change one of the tv screens to ACC network at kickoff time,  all that showed up on Channel 612 was a blue screen with the banner message “Channel Not Authorized”.

Did DirectTV drop ACC Network recently?  If not, is it possibly a problem at the bar’s end with needing to do a channel refresh?  Every other game channel carrying football appeared to broadcast without a similar disruption.

Depends on the exact game. The 600s are Regional Sports Networks (RSNs). Since this is not pro football (so dealing with what is in-market or not) it may come down to if the game was broadcast on a local channel in that area (which supersedes RSNs) or if they had a blackout if you were too close the game as they want butts in seats.

If the sports bar was supposed to get the game then either the equipment needed to refresh the service authorizations if issue on their end or was a problem with the broadcast source to begin with (which would need to be checked with DirecTV).

But no, the network hasn't been dropped.

This was for a DirecTV subscriber (the bar) in Las Vegas, Nevada, some 2,200 miles away from where the game was being played.  So it couldn’t have been a blackout.

What would they need to do to refresh their channels?  Is that a fairly straightforward process?

If it is a residential account, you just log in online and refresh service authorizations to each receiver as needed. I don't know for sure if the same holds true for a commercial/business account. Otherwise they call DirecTV to have them do that for them, or assist with any further troubleshooting.

I'm not sure this info will help. As a customer of the bar I would expect you don't have any access to do anything about it. I would suggest submitting complaint to the bar for any chance at a resolution. Otherwise, hopefully it was just a one-time glitch and going forward the channel displays as expected.
