Thinking about going from stream back to satellite
Hello community! its been almost 10 years since I had Directv satellite. I currently have Directv stream and have been with stream for about 5 months. I left Uverse TV ( which I Loved) but they quit giving out promotions and it got too expensive.
I like directv stream but there are a few things I don't like and I am wondering if satellite has the same issues. 1. With directv stream you can't extend your recordings like add an hour, etc or start early...the only way to accomplish this is record the program before or after.
2. When you go into your DVR recordings and you delete a recording.... instead of it keeping you in your recordings library you have to completely exit out then go back into it to view your recordings again.
These two issues are cumbersome so I just wanted to know is the satellite side of directv like I remember it being you could always add time or start your program early on your recordings and when deleting your recordings it kept you in your recordings ?
I see that you can use the gemini ( which is what I use with stream).....I understand there are different software versions for satellite and stream but should I decide to go back to satellite would you recommend I get the genie minis or go with the gemini? The guide in the gemini for stream is nice but the font is kinda small. I plan on asking for the genie 2 to pair with either the genie minis or the gemini boxes because I have ATT fiber and my gateway had to be in a place where I'm unable to connect a TV. Any input on this would be much appreciated because if the problems I described above now exist on satellite then I probably shouldn't change services... thanks in advance.

DTV sat does allow you to pad the stop time up to 3 hrs and yes you can start a recording early. You remain in the recording list.
The HS17 doesn't connect to any TV so you have to have minis connected to all TVs
The Gemini is a mini client that can stream from the internet using streaming apps from the streaming services without changing the TV input/source.

Thanks for the info! very helpful! Have you got a software update to your receivers by chance? I'm reading comments on here and apparently a new software update just hit the satellite receivers and it may have introduced some of the problems I just asked about in my OP...........I'm definitely familiar with the gemini as I am currently using 3 of them with stream and its a great device but I just don't like the cloud DVR and how it functions not being able to pad time to your recordings, etc........if they have pushed a new update and it causes the same problems as I am experiencing with stream there would be no use in me changing and getting myself under a two year contract but if those problems are not pushed to satellite I would like to change services.

My setup is to old for the newer updates. I don't think DTV will change the ability to pad the start/stop times. It is mainly used for live sports that can run over the guides stop time.

You might want to try and hang on to that old setup and equipment as I'm reading threads on here that kinda suggests this new software update makes the satellite receivers much like stream........not sure if it affects the ability to pad recordings, etc but if it does then I'm definitely not changing from stream to satellite.
