Recording only new episodes

As a former DTV Satellite customer, we were used to being able to set things up to record a series and only get new episodes. We're now on DTV-Stream, and have not been able to figure out how to do that - if we set a series to record, it records every single episode that is broadcast, whether it is new or not. Not only does this happens with the original over the air station, it also records broadcasts of the series from a secondary source, when a non-network station shows older episodes or even entire older seasons. As a result, our DVR keeps getting clogged with multiple old episodes we've already seen. Is there a way to stop this?

Yes, there is a way to fix this. When you set up your series recording you must have over looked the record only new episodes option.  So what you will need to do is to stop the series recording of the show you only want to set to new recordings.  Then you will need to set up the recording for the series you want to record only new episodes of.  This is how you do that select the show that you want to record then hit select button then it will say recording set then down at the bottom of that pop up screen it shows ok or record series select the record series option after doing that you will then be redirected to another screen to where you will have the option to select all episodes or new episodes select new episodes then go down to the bottom of our screen and then select record series.  Now it will only record new episodes of the show that you want to watch just make sure that when selecting the show that you want to record that you make sure that you are selecting the show on the channel that you want it to record on or you may only get reruns.  Hope this helps.

Hello, @rgerber4. If you want to stop recording older episodes, you can choose only to capture new ones. You must stop the recording and set it up again to only record new episodes. Here are the steps to achieve this goal.

Please choose the show you want to view the recording option for.

Press Set/OK on the recording tab.

Select Record series, after that you will be redirected to choose between "All Episodes" or "New Episodes."

Lastly, you need to scroll down and select record series.
With this feature, you can effortlessly capture the latest episodes of your favorite show.

I just got Directv Stream through at&t. I understand the steps you explained but every time I hit record series I get no additional pop ups to choose only new episodes. I am so frustrated so far an it’s only my first day with it! Can anyone help??

On HGTV, some series record older shows even when I clearly mark new shows only. The description for the show even will give the original air date. Is DirecTV stream aware of this issue? Thanks-

I just switched to DIRECTV and I’m regretting it now!  I’ve done the record new episodes only but it still wants to record every episode under the sun new or not! This is ridiculous. You’d think with all the technology out there directv could have this figured out. I think I will be switching companies again.

I had the old cable direct tv for lots of years.. I recently changed to streaming. You all seem to be giving instructional taping help using cable tv…

Using the streaming system you have to go to the list of almost every available showing  of the show and delete what you don’t want individually…You will have to spend half your life deleting individual shows..

I am ready to change back to cable…So far I see no redeeming feature in streaming.
