audio/video sync issues

Many, many posts on variations of this issue going back years. My conclusion is that there are numerous scenarios, meaning that one solution definitely does not fit all. Many describe audio lag getting progressively worse during a session, temporarily resolved by turning off/on or switching channels back and forth. This strikes me as possibly related to bandwidth/throughput. Mine seems more configuration-related. I record a program. When I later watch that recording on a Samsung TV with the Stream app (no DTV Stream box), everything is fine. When I watch THAT SAME RECORDING on a different Samsung TV that is configured with a Denon A/V receiver and a DTV Stream box, the audio runs behind the video by a small, consistent amount.

I have eARC turned off on the TV, and audio lag set to zero on both the receiver and the TV.

Wiring: HDMI cable from DTV Stream box to receiver, HDMI cable from receiver to Samsung One Connect box (which feeds video, audio, and power to the TV via a proprietary cable).

Any ideas?

Solution found! First, as I said earlier, I believe there are many scenarios. What has now worked for me is reconfiguring the wiring (see earlier post for old configuration). New configuration:

DTV box to HDMI 1 of TV

HDMI 3 of TV (ARC) to HDMI out of receiver (eARC/ARC)

Anynet / CEC switched to “on” on TV

ARC/eARC switched to “on” (actually “auto”) on TV

Lip Sync on receiver switched to “on”

Result of the above is that the audio is reaching the receiver from the TV rather than from the DTV box, and takes advantage of ARC ports.

I had similar audio issues with the DTV box when connecting to my TV and AVR via optical cable.  I ended up returning it.  For the past couple months I have been using a Roku Ultra and the audio is working perfectly.

I've had AV sync issues for years and tried many, many things.

I still have it almost every day on one of my setups:  Panasonic TV + DTV Stream Box or Roku + ZVOX (or without ZVOX)  Part of that setup is caused by the internet connection... I saw an improvement by reducing hops to the modem, but still happens every day. I also see frame rate drops, so likely internet connection there... but it has gotten worse in the past couple of weeks.

On my main setup, I've gone through Onkyo, Denon and Pioneer receivers. Mainly trying to get rid of a problem with audio drops during commercial breaks when the surround sound format changes. But AV sync was a consistent issue. This happened with DirecTV satellite as well as AppleTV. I tried Video Source -> RXR -> TV and Video Source -> TV -> RXR, but never saw a consistent fix.

The only solution that seemed to stick was to use the same brand RXR and TV.  In my case a Sony RXR + Sony TV.  Unfortunately, I do feel like I have consistently worked my way down the audio food chain (based on brand name), but the AV sync issues have been reduced to the point where I think it is internet traffic causing it when it happens.

Addendum: forgot to mention that HDMI cable quality also may play a role. Advice I saw on YouTube said to make sure your cable is "high speed."

I had been going nuts with audio sync and audio drop-outs with DirecTV. I had older HDMI cables and then bought an HDMI-ARC cable, hoping that would work. I connected my Sony 5.1 sound system to my Philips television. The audio sync problems went away but I continued to have problems with audio dropping out completely. I then used the new HDMI-ARC cable to connect my television to the DirecTV "genie," and passed the sound from the TV to the sound system with the optical audio "cable.' That (so far) seems to have resolved the problems. It seems to me the problem is with DirecTV and not my television or Sony sound system.
