Vizio Sound Bar Connected to DTV

I just moved to a new apt. I have a TCL Smart TV with DTV and a Vizio Sound bar. When I switch from Smart TV to DTV my Sound bar powers off. I then press the volume button on the DTV remote and the Sound Bar powers on. I can then control the volume with the DTV remote. Any ideas or suggestions on why this is happening. It did not do this before my move so I assume I changed something on DTV. I tried the suggestions on the Vizio sound bar manual to keep the sound bar powered all the time but that did not work. Any ideas or suggestions on why my Sound bar is powering off will be appreciated

This may be related to HDMI-CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) or the way your TCL TV and DirecTV box are handling power commands after the move. When you switch inputs, the TV may be sending a “power off” signal to connected devices, which your Vizio bar is responding to.

A couple things you can try:

  • Check HDMI-CEC settings on both your TCL TV and DirecTV box. On the TV, it may be called “TLink,” “CEC,” or “HDMI Control.” Try toggling that off and back on.
  • If the sound bar is connected via optical cable, see if switching to HDMI ARC (or vice-versa) changes the behavior.
  • Re-program your DirecTV remote to control the Vizio sound bar directly sometimes re-syncing helps after a move.
  • Lastly, confirm the sound bar’s Auto Power setting. On some Vizio models it defaults to “On” after being unplugged. Set it to “Off” so it doesn’t turn off when it loses signal.

It’s not unusual for equipment to behave differently after being unplugged and re-set up, so likely just a settings tweak will fix it.
