Hooking a ATT / DirecTV Streaming Box to a Mesh WIFI, not possible?
Looking through dozens of posts here, I keep reading that the TV streaming boxes (c71kw-400, in this case) with ATT / DirecTV cannot connect to popular mesh WIFI networks like Deco, Orbi, Eero, etc. that might be added to the home network configuration.
In other words they *have* to connect to the ATT DirecTV WIFI Gateway in order to function properly. Is this true?
What is a person to do if one of the c71kw 400 units in the basement (or some other distant location) is getting a spotty connection to the main AT&T WIFI? I understand the most of the "extenders" do not work well at all.
Is there no way to improve the WIFI with 3rd party (non-AT&T) equipment to allow for better TV box WIFI connections for those placed farther away from the AT&T router?

The device works best connected directly to the Gateway, whether it is by WiFi or Wired Ethernet. And that is regardless if your ISP is AT&T or someone else. (There is no DirecTV Gateway as they are not an internet provider).
Other boxes can work using a Powerline Adapter to give you a wired connections, so something you could try.

One of mine runs thru WiFi on a Orbi mesh system. Works everytime I use it.
If your trying to hard wire off a Orbi satellite that will not work has to be out of the main Orbi unit, the way I have mine set up.

I haven't encountered a problem using one (wirelessly) off a Deco mesh. It is conceivable that there could be some configurations that could cause problems, but I can't think of anything that is inherent in the use of a mesh (or WiFi extender, cascade of wired switches, or other topology extension within your home network) that should be an issue. (I've done several of the above without problems.)

I use Plume's HomePass System for Wi-Fi and also direct ethernet connections for my Model VRC82-19 DirecTVStream devices. I'm not sure why you would have a problem if your router is generating appropriate DHCP addresses.
