Gemini Audio output

I have an Onkyo Receiver with Zone2 option that powers 2 speakers in the kitchen. With the Genie, there were RCA audio outputs, with the GEMINI there isn't.  So I purchased a optical to rca audio converter. It didn't result as desired.  The converter needs a PCM audio signal. Does the GEMINI support PCM and if yes, how do I get there?

I have a 'zone 2' on my Onkyo HT-R593 but I don't really use it.  I'm using the 'surround' mode and have a second set of speakers hooked to the 'rear surround' outputs.  They essentially act as a 2nd zone (but they only play what is on the main channel).  Running the Gemini HDMI output thru the Onkyo allows me to at least duplicate the audio to another room.

Yes, @jfredinsc. The DIRECTV Gemini device supports PCM audio output via its optical (digital audio) port. Disabling Dolby Audio in the settings will force the output to PCM, which should resolve the issue with your converter.

Here's how:

  1. Press the Home button on your Gemini remote to open the main menu.
  2. Navigate to Settings (it looks like a gear icon).
  3. Select System > Device Preferences (or directly Audio on some menus).
  4. Go to Audio > Dolby Audio (or Surround Sound if that's the label shown).
  5. Toggle Dolby Audio to Off. This will switch the optical output to PCM stereo.

After making this change, test the audio on a channel or app to confirm it's working through your Onkyo receiver. Let us know how it goes. Rizza, DIRECTV Community Team
