Refer a Friend denial.
I've spent nearly 5 hours on the phone over the last 4 days (9/5/2025) with their customer service and being sent to different departments round & round to get nowhere on trying to resolve a problem I'm having with a refer a friend gift card that was denied. Here's the story. I've been with DIRECTV for 28 years. Recently, I signed up for their refer a friend program. Entered my email and phone number and got a link to refer my friend. Sent the link to my friend who signed up for DIRECTV using the correct phone number you have to call and using the refer a friend link. We both received the emails telling us that the gift card was on our way and then out of nowhere I received an email stating "Unfortunately, we've had to decline your referral reward" The 3 reasons given for declining the gift card are: The 1st possible reason given for the decline was: "You disconnected DIRECTV services before enough time had passed to verify your eligibility for the referral.” Wrong... I'm currently a DIRECTV customer and have been for 28 years. The 2nd possible reason they gave for declining the gift card was: "You provided us with a different name or email than the one associated with your DIRECTV customer account." wrong again. They never ask for your name when signing up for the referral friend program. They just asked for your email and phone number which I gave. The 3rd reason they gave for declining the gift card was: "You have already received the maximum number of rewards for the calendar year." wrong again. I have referred people to DIRECTV in the past, but it's been years since the last time I referred somebody to DIRECTV. I am done calling your customer service and wasting another second on trying to resolve this matter. I'm gonna give you one more chance to resolve this issue or I'm going to cancel my service and get the person I referred to cancel their service so you can lose 2 customers over a $50 gift card or correct this problem immediately. The choice is yours.

In order to receive e-gift cards, both you and your friend must maintain service through reward fulfillment to remain eligible for the offer.
