Recordings expire after 9 months. In a series recording, max 30 episodes stored (oldest deleted first which may be in less than 9 months). Restrictions apply.
I only have 20 hours recording time for all of the shows I record. I always delete an episode as soon as I watch it and never have more than 1 or 2 episodes of a show. I just record a lot of different shows and watch them pretty quickly but I guess I can't instruct the system to save a particular show for a longer time. Miss my TiVo!

Recorded programming will be saved for 9 months from the day the program was recorded. However, an expiration warning will be displayed on the 9 months so you can be aware of it. You can check Record and watch shows with cloud DVR article to find out more info about this feature.

You don't have to do anything. They're just kept for 9 months unless you delete it earlier yourself.

Actually, programs that I wanted to keep are being deleted to make room for more so they are not saving them.

How many recordings before some are deleted?
Note that only 30 episodes can be saved ....

If you are on 20 hours and the dvr is deleting shows--that means you are going over your time. Upgrade to unlimited
