$85.00 Increase!

I just hit the two-year mark for my DTV streaming account. I looked at my bill today, and it increased by $85.00!!! That is an increase of $1020.00 per year!!! Are they crazy??? They say that my "Discount" has expired. I am registering a complaint with the BBB. This is deception and is absolutely outrageous!!!

It's not deception when a price goes up. If I had to guess, you had some promotion expire. You have two options: Go to a lower package or call in and try to negotiate a lower rate.

This is why I always tell people to write down the date their promotions expire. If they do, they won't be surprised when their bills go up.

DirecTV is under zero obligation to remind customers about their discounts expiring. In fact, they hope you forget.

Perhaps, but it doesn't change the truth of what he says.  Many companies attract new customers with promotional pricing that expires after some period of time.  They often don't want to offer these same discounts to existing customers, because that lowers their profit; they only lowered the prices to attract new customers.

Your BBB complaint will be given to AT&T's escalation office (office of the president), who will contact you by phone within a couple of days.  They may be able to get you back some of the discount.

You're two year promotion ended. Plain and simple. If you paid attention when you signed up, you would know how much the price was going to increase. Don't act shocked b/c you didn't read the terms.

Most companies when you sign up will have an introductory offer, the welcome basket if you will. This is commonly a discount for the 1st 12 or 24 months. This would be listed on the offer details, in your order confirmation, and at least for the satellite side it is listed on your bill counting down (such as $10 off for 12, 1 of 12). This way you can prepare for when that special ends.

Yes it attracts customers, but also allows you to try more of the service for a lower rate. That way you can decide if you want to stay with your services at the regular price, lower down to a better fitting package, or close out the service entirely if you decide it is not for you.

You can certainly file a complaint with the BBB, but in reality, DirecTV has done nothing wrong in this situation. You got an intro offer, accepted the terms, and it completed on schedule. As the customer, it is your responsibility to read the terms of the offer and your bills.

The mature option instead would be to review the channels you watch and then contact DirecTV. See if a lower costing package better fits what you watch. Certainly ask if there are any discounts available, but be prepared there may not be. And even if they are, this time be aware they are temporary so will end.
