Upgrading to Hi Def satellite and HD DIRECTV box in RV

I have the HD box and satellite hooked up but not getting a signal. My old system I went to the signal meter turned up the volume. Then moved the satellite until the meter signal beep increased indicating I had a signal. With this new system I'm not getting any beeping noise from the signal meter. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

DTV removed the beeping tuning signal when the first HD receivers came out as the 99/103 sats required fine tuning the SWM dish.   DTV is shutting down the MPEG2 channels on the 101 sat, AFAIK it will continue broadcasting in MPEG4 so needs an MPEG4 HD receiver to work but there will be no local channels on the 101 so you will need a SWM dish to get them.  Unless the RV is permanently parked DTV will not service it.

I have been on the phone with DIRECTV a lot over the last several weeks trying to get this matter resolved. I was assured the mini genie box would work in my RV. Then I was told a mini genie would not work. I returned it a new box was sent. I called DIRECTV 5 times one day each person I talked to said something different. It's been a complete mess from the beginning. If DIRECTV will not service, the equipment then do not offer it.

I understand your frustration about getting this matter resolved, @eparkerf. A genie mini can work as long as you do have a genie also you need a SWiM dish on the RV. We've sent you a PM to check your account and sort things out. Ara, DIRECTV Community Specialist

@eparkerf

A Mini Genie is a Client, not a Receiver. This means it cannot work without the main Genie/Genie Lite/Genie-2. It has no tuners of its own.

For standalone, you need a HDDVR (i.e. HR24) or HD non-DVR (i.e. H25).

As a note, the Genie-2 (HS17) only allows Clients so is not friendly for RV setups as you would have to take everything.
