Curious I have had the same equipment for some time now. I have heard you can request updated equipment if you equipment is over two years old. Is these any truth to this?

Yes to a point, DTV doesn't update their equipment frequently it can be 5 years or more before anything new comes out. The newest model is the HS17 Genie2 that has 7 tuners but is a mini client only system that doesn't allow any other DTV receivers on the account. There is also the new C71WK mini client that is 4K compatible that can be wired or wireless. In most cases an upgrade is only to add another TV. If you want to post the model numbers of what you have we can give you better advise.

Your equipment does not need to be upgraded, it is quite alright. The only thing that may be a hassle is that you can’t use all 5 wireless clients at the same time with the HR44, only three at a time. This is because the HR44 has three tuners to give away and each client takes up one tuner at a time.
The way to solve this would be two H25 standalone HD receivers to replace your two wireless C41Ws or just go with the HS17 receiver. As a note, the HS17 forbids standalone HD or HDDVR boxes like the HR24 or H25 so it is considered a restrictive setup.

The HR44 is the last Genie made that is not 4K compatible it can't get the few 4K channels but can record the few 4K PPV movies and play them in 4K to either the C61K (wired only) or the C71WK mini. The HR54 is 4K compatible when used with the 4K minis.
The C41W minis where the second model made and is the oldest model and is now non returnable so you can call DTV and tell them they died to get them replaced for the $20 shipping fee, you could get the C61W as replacements.

The HR44 is the 2nd generation Genie. The Genie is top of the line as far as DirecTV equipment goes.
However, having five C41W Mini Genie Clients is a problem. The Genie may have five tuners, but two of them are reserved to the Genie itself. Since Clients have no tuners of their own, that means only up to 3 Clients may be in use at the same time along with the main Genie.
Not quite. The C41 is the 2nd model of the regular Mini Genies. The C41W is the 1st wireless Mini Genie (so 3rd model if you want to go overall with all Clients), with the C61W being the second wireless Mini Genie.
With the limit of how many TVs are in use, you have a couple options.
1. Replace two of your Mini Genies with HDDVRs. That way you get 2 tuners and 500GB recording space on each, independent processing as they don't require the main Genie to work, but still share recordings with the others. These are wired as only the Mini Genies have a wireless version. Also since regular HDDVRs function on the previous interface, and don't ecourage customers to a locked-in all-in-one setup that AT&T wanted, it has become more difficult to get them through DirecTV itself. Authorized retailers like Solid Signal have them, but they are $199 each for their one-time lease cost as only through DirecTV itself can you do a free upgrade (which only covers the first box).
2. Replace the HR44 with the Genie-2 (HS17). This is a Headless Server tower. It has 7 tuners, meaning all your Mini Genies can be in use at the same time. It has 2TB of space, so you are still doubling what you have available. It has the wireless video bridge (WVB) built-in and can still use your external one so you have the best overall coverage in your home. As it is not a traditional receiver, it doesn't go on a TV itself. That means your order should include one Mini Genie (wired or wireless as you prefer) for that TV. This model does not allow regular receivers, so the capability is a hard cap. There is no Picture in Picture (PiP) as each Mini can only use one of the tuners. If you go with this option, make sure to be caught up on your recordings as they do not transfer to the new box.

Hey @Juniper really Appreciate your effort of explaining everything in details, Could You explain what'd you mean by "REGULAR RECEIVER"? when you said " This model does not allow regular receivers".
Could You also Explain What do you mean by at last sentence "make sure to be caught up on your recordings as they do not transfer to the new box."?
Would it not Work like Whole Home DVR, Like You record from one Box and Can watch that recording on another Box or TV?

The HS17 Genie2 account only allows mini clients so H or HR receivers will not be authorized to work with it.
Recording are encrypted to the DVR that recorded them so they can't be copied to a new/different DVR. Whole Home streams the decrypted programs to the minis/H/HR receivers.

@JackFisher
Recievers have dedicated tuners and can function on their own.
Mini Genies are Clients. This means they are extensions of the main Genie box since they have no tuners of their own. They each 'steal' one from the primary box which serves as their receiver.
The Genie-2 (HS17) is the only model that only allows Clients (Mini Genie or RVU/DirecTV Ready TV). This is a 7 tuner and 2TB hard cap setup.
A Genie (HR34, HR44, HR54) and and two regular HDDVRs (last model HR24) is 9 tuners and 2TB space between them. If you have more TVs, you can have more HDDVRs further increasing this. Also each of these boxes supports an external hard drive if you find the internal is not big enough.
If somone has a Genie or other type of DVR and upgrades to the Genie-2, the old boxes get replaced. DirecTV has no way to copy recordings from a replaced box, regardless if it was for an upgrade or warranty order. So those recordings are lost.
Whole Home DVR works the same where you watch what is recorded on one box onto your other TVs. But the recording doesn't copy between hard drives, it is only be viewed by the other.

What is the current equipment being installed? I have had a HR54-500 for about 3 years. Am I eligible to receive upgrades?

The HR54 is the 3rd generation Genie. Though there is technically a newer line, it is not guaranteed an "upgrade" for everyone.
What are the models of each box you have, or is the HR54 your only box? And is there something you're wanting out of an upgrade, or just don't like it has been 3 years?

also, isn't getting an upgrade "automatically" signs up the account for a 2 yr contract? or did that change?

Hasn't changed, upgrades/new receivers come with a new 2 year contract.

Of course upgrades still come with a 24 month service agreement. Not sure why you were uncertain about that. The only change is that SD non-DVRs back in the day came with a 12 month, but everything else being more (DVR and/or HD) is valuable enough for a 24 month. And that is how it has been for about 20 years once DirecTV was no longer exclusively purchase to own.
Depends on the prior poster's setup if an upgrade is even something to be entertained or if their current setup is ideal for their use.
