I cannot get my new Denon avr to pair with my genie remote

Just upgraded our 20-year-old avr with a Denon avr-S570BT. I have searched for hours to try to find an answer to why I cannot get it to pair with our Genie RC73 remote. The set up is the genie runs to the avr via HDMI in the SAT port, then from the avr to the tv via the monitor port to the HDMI arc port at the tv. Everything sound wise works great, but when I try to pair the remote to be able to use the volume and off and on with Genie remote, I get nothing. I looked for the model number in the list and it's not even listed. I tried using "I don't know the model" and let it search and it comes up with nothing. Even tried to enter some codes but there's no way to do that with the RC73 remote. In one search I found someone had the same problem and was able to get it to pair with the same hookup I have. Any Ideas would be great to hear.

Let's get your Genie remote programmed to your AVR, @blenard. Please follow these step-by-step instructions for manual pairing: How to program your DIRECTV remote control | DIRECTV Support Charles, DIRECTV Community Team

Thanks for the response, Charles. I have done all of that and it would not pair. There was no listing for the Denon S-570 BT and I tried all the codes that were close to my model number. I guess I need to have the code for the model number of the Denon AVR so I can enter it manually, but I cannot find it. Do you know what the code would be.

I have a newer Denon, and my remote will allow volume up, down, and mute...

Funny, I thought that these functions were unchanged over the years.

After contacting both Direct TV and Denon to see if they had an answer, I had no luck. Direct TV pretty much told me to contact Denon and Denon said it's Direct tv's codes. I did finally get the Genie remote to power the Denon on and off, but I think that's only because I have it connected with the tv's ARC, I still have to use the Denon remote or tv remote to control the volume. You would think in the year 2026 everything can be made to pair together.

Well, I would do something different, try a Denon code for another Denon... the AVX units all worked for me, I have an AVX-3800 I believe.

I doubt the volume and power functions have changed in years...

Yup did that, probably entered 50 Denon codes and not one worked. Funny thing is the new Denon replaced an older model Denon 1801 and on that one the volume worked on the Direct Tv remote but the power didn't.

Thanks for following up, @blenard. While it's uncommon, there are instances where certain models don't have full compatibility, which can also impact remote functionality. We'll pass this along to our team for review. John, DIRECTV Community Team

I assume the Denon has a IR remote? Can you verify that it will do sound up and down and power?

Yes the Denon remote will power the AVR on and off and control the volume. It's the Direct tv remote that won't pair.

Right, but was focusing on the remote's interface, RF, BT, or IR...

My solution was to get a 3rd party remote for everything but the Denon's on/off and volume, and set up the CEC on the components involved (since not all components can have CEC turned off)

So I would focus on the volume function of the Denon, and let CEC turn it on and off.

I use the 3rd party remote for when I do something different with the entertainment system.. that remote can issue sequences of commands IR and BT... The Gemini will take IR all day WHILE also having the remote paired with BT.

I think I wrote this up somewhere on my site, but forum policy precludes me from publishing links.

The RC7X series of remotes (Genie or "peanut" style) don't have the full universal control like the prior RC6X (larger white with mode selection switch). So their compatibility with other devices such as your AVR are not consistent. That is where 3rd party remotes start to shine if you truly want an all-in-one. If any of the suggestions from other users get your DirecTV remote working the way you want, please share the exact fix as may help others.

Thanks Juniper, yes our old RC6X did control everything on our old Denon via switches. Sounds like I will just be stuck using the two remotes.
