Is the thumping coming from the box or the TV itself? (there is a programmed thumping noise in the menu if you try to go farther then the options available).
Mine does that also and it’s fairly new. For months I thought I was hearing my neighbors TV or stereo. It wasn’t until I unplugged everything in my HEC and started plugging each device in one at a time until I identified the DVR box was the culprit. I repositioned it and it’s much better now.
I wonder if this thing is going to stop working soon.

If these things have spinning disks, as opposed to SSD, that's my first thought... disk going bad. Or maybe a fan?

All DTV HR receivers have spinning hard drives and I believe beginning with the HR44 there is only an emergency fan.

Which "Genie" do you have?
