Gemini remote issue

When using the Gemini microphone remote, the responses most often differ to "Try Saying ..." and go nowhere.  Only occasionally do they work - like "go to Netflix".  Should I be holding down the mic button longer, or less?  Is there any particular procedure I should follow?  I am a little older and I miss instruction manuals!!  I also expect to see the screen respond when the button is down before I give an instruction, it does not, unlike original Directv remotes.  Your help is appreciated.  ED

AFAIK it is press and release.  The voice commands are sent to google to determine what you want then the command is sent back while it may take a few micro seconds it is not instantaneous.
