Equipment return kit

Service was cancelled end of October 2023 but billing cycle deemed disconnect date as 11/14/23. Today, November 25th, received in mail a letter relaying kit to arrive in 4-7 days. Also, equipment must be returned by 21 days from deactivation to avoid additional fees. I have a trip December 1-10. How do I expedite the kit or resolve in another manner? Local AT&T store won't accept. No distribution centers anywhere near me to my knowledge.  I feel there was amply time to get the kit to me in a timely manner. Now I have to worry about timeliness because there was no sense of timeliness on Directv's part. Thx for any advice.

You can take them a UPS/FedEx store with your account info to scan them in, keep the receipt.  AFAIK DTV still sends them FedEx 2nd day.

Just box up equipment and bring my account number? Should I seal the box or no?

Up to you but since they have to scan the label on the side or bottom of each receiver there is no need for a box as they are bulk shipped back to DTV.

Like other companies DirecTV no longer prorates the final bill. Sounds like 11/14 was the last day of the cycle which would make it the correct disconnect date.

If they are sending a return kit, it comes by FedEx for you to return by USPS (Postal Service, not UPS). This is the old process which is supposed to be used when a participating shipping location is not within 10 miles of you.

The new process is you go to a participating FedEx or The UPS Store (not Postal Service) with your equipment for the free return. No need to box anything up, but you do need your account number when you go in. Make sure to keep receipt showing they took possession.

Of course local AT&T store cannot accept as this is DirecTV. The stores are similar to 3rd party retailers who can upsell a new account, but once ordered you deal with DirecTV which is a separate provider.

Those are the options. There is no other way to expedite it. Companies don't time their returns around their customer's travel plans.
