DVR not recording

DVR is not recording. It's not the 28 day thing. I tried to record the Emmy's , saw the red record indicator and nothing. Same thing happened when I got interrupted in the middle of a movie, tried to record the rest, set it up, came back the next day and nothing, no recording. There's enough space so that's not it either. What's up?
