HR34 and C31 have the same interface, though technically different software. So what you see is essentially the same, even if the internal coding has some differences (as Clients are extension of the main Genie).
You were asking similar about a year ago. Do you have these legacy boxes and having some issues? Want to make sure you get all your answers and relevant info.
You cannot buy an HR34 and C31. Starting with that original Genie, boxes are lease-only. They do not have a customer-owned option. If someone is selling these, either they didn't understand they had to return to DirecTV or if was in a non-returnable status are not permitted to be transferred customer to customer, or worse were stolen.
Shortly after the launch of that Genie, DirecTV discontinued all purchase to own-options for pre-Genie models and then eventually stopped permitting reactivation of any old box even if it previously was in an owned status. All those changes happened years ago.
DirecTV satellite whether it is your starting boxes if you are looking to order service, or are replacing boxes ("upgrade"), it comes with a 24 month service agreement. If you are eligible for a free upgrade, that is through DirecTV itself as authorized retailers are only permitted to provide boxes at their one-time lease cost (which still comes with the 24 month agreement).
If you give someone money for those two models than you've been scammed one way or another.
Also don't get the HR34 even if you find an authorized seller with it in stock for the lease cost. It is well known for system slowness and overheating. It couldn't keep up with later updates and the Genie setup. The later models were built with a faster processor and more efficient cooling.
Hence why that model was discontinued and made non-returnable years ago.
