Dispose of Direct TV Satellite Dish

We rented our house out for a number of years.  One of the previous tenants installed a Direct TV Dish.  We moved back into the house yet Direct TV never picked up the dish.  I need to remove it.  We've live here now almost 3 years and there's never been any communication from Direct TV regarding that dish.

Can I dig it up and dispose of it?

You have owned it since it was installed, so do what you want to it.

@garyoostveen

DirecTV (not Direct TV) will never pick up the dish or communicate to you about it. Once installed it became part of the property. Everything but the receiver/client boxes is owned by the account holder.

So do with the dish what you want. It is suggested to leave mounting plate to avoid leaks. Main dish can go with metal recycling, but the LNB (the "eye") goes with electronics.

Thank you both for your comments.  Makes sense to me.  I also saw that on DirectTV's site.  Apparently they have the dish cost built into the accounts.

Part of why DirecTV has a 24 month service agreement with all intro offers. Because they invest a bit up front with equipment and installation, they need to make some money back if you leave early.
