Directv remote programing

I'm trying to pair the directv remote with a new TCL television.  All the functions of the remote are working except the volume button on the remote.  When I use the volumr bitton, a message appears telling me to pair the remote.  This is what trhe instructioncs are:  pressing the mute and select buttons and holding the buttons for 120 seconds, as stated by directv tp pair the remote.  No results.  Any suggestions?
