"CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION"
As of 10/17/23, the Alexa Voice feature will be removed from Alexa devices and DirecTV Genie HD DVDs
I'd like to know why we got the notification, too

@DIRECTVhelp
Jessica this is a notification coming from the messages in the DirecTV equipment. A lot of people are getting this message from DirecTV. It is not a message from Alexa, the TV set or something else. It is from DirecTV.

You got it right. Amazon Alexa Voice feature is retiring on 10/17 on DIRECTV via Satellite receivers. However, our Gemini device has a voice-activated remote and more. Check this out: All about your Gemini device | DIRECTV Customer Service & Support Let's continue in PM to discuss upgrading your device. Ian, DIRECTV Community Specialist

Yep, too much work to maintain the separate feature, the future will be Android TV, I agree. Maybe clean up the other thread and remove the misinformation?

@DIRECTVhelp You can't upgrade a Genie with a Gemini client.

We have improved the Gemini experience to the next level. You can have a Gemini connected to your Genie to enjoy the Gemini features, including the voice control, without additional charges.

DIRECTV dumps on its customers again.
After 20 years with DIRECTV, I'LL be dumping THEM as soon as I get time to weigh my options and get a replacement service. DIRECTV quitting Alexa was the last straw. I wouldn't dare waste my time and money with Gemini after reading about all the problems. I'm done.
So tired of companies releasing experiments of half baked software and hardware expecting PAYING CUSTOMERS to troubleshoot it for them.

Well when you're ready call DirecTV. As this is a public forum of other customers and not an airport, your departure notification won't do anything as must be over the phone. Good luck with whatever future service you decide on.

My "departure notification" is for other customers who may be uninitiated in DirecTV's disturbing practices. Hopefully they will do the research before getting locked into a contract they may regret.
Thanks for the good wishes.

Nothing disturbing about it. Support of the Alexa skill is too costly for too niche a group of customers. Nothing to be "initiated" about.
If someone cannot live without Alexa, then they will seek a provider that has it. And right now anyone with Alexa should already know it no longer works with DirecTV. So your departure notice seems to be a day late and a dollar short as it were.

Sorry Juniper, Alexa was only the LATEST of the disturbing practices.
As stated in an earlier post, "DIRECTV quitting Alexa was the last straw."
I'll leave it at that.

@Uranov
Leave it at what? What "latest practices" are you referring to? Otherwise why bring them up if you won't say what they are?
