UnlWful retention of financial information

My information has been retained with out my consent. They will not remove it, they say they can't. I'm seeking legal advice after numerous attempts to solve the issue. I have not been able to  contact anyone at the headquarters. Also if direct tv and at&t are separate why does at&t process payment and billing information?

Financial information, commonly card info, stays on the account for lifetime. That is how it has been for DirecTV for well over 20 years.

If you have an outstanding balance, then they can charge any payment info on file per the permission you already gave them. This is intended to make sure someone doesn't go past due and try to skip out on what they owe.

You can update auto bill pay info as needed. As I recall even if not on autopay you can designate one of your payment methods as the primary (what would be used first IF needed).

Sorry but there hasn't been a way to have them remove the information. As long as you don't owe an outstanding balance then the info does nothing.

Edited to add:

AT&T sold DirecTV last year, and transaction just recently completed. Rebranding and any backend updates are still finishing up. Also if you have a combined bill between AT&T and DirecTV services, then that is DirecTV billing AT&T resulting in them showing on your AT&T bill who processes payment from you.
