Service Address changes
Unable to have the Movers Department change my service address for local channels. We snowbird/RV and our service address changes frequently. After 2 years of flawless changes to our service address when moving locations, they (Movers Dept) say there is an error on my account and they cannot change the service address for local channels?

You might just try calling again and hope you connect with a more willing support rep. But it has, indeed, gotten harder for RVers to change their "service address". Many have switched to Dish Network. Or gone the Streaming route.

I appreciate the response. Loyalty Department is where my phone calls are now received. It would appear that someone has listed my phone number as a problem account. Loyalty has provided significant discounts but the problem still exists. My account error for being unable to change service addresses has been escalated to "AIR" department and they are supposed to have a disposition in 48 hours.
We will see?

Keep us posted. But don't get your hopes up. DirecTV is simply not very "RV Friendly" anymore. We switched to DirecTV Stream since it's seamlessly the same service at home and in our RV. And we can use a variety of streaming devices.

After AT&T acquired DirecTV they changed the process to better comply with all the rules.
Your physical service address determines locals, Regional Sports, and the taxes you are required to pay. If you don't take all your boxes with you, or temporarily deactivated boxes left at home, then technically you are in violation. This was a big concern, but DirecTV didn't do anything about but AT&T is heavy on following rules.
So for the last few years you weren't supposed to be able to just change the address. But a few agents found workarounds/glitches in the system to push it through, though it was absolutely not allowed. If you are in an RV, you take a antenna with you to get locals within range. If you have a 2nd permanent residence, you do a movers 2nd home and then you suspend one account at a time (max 6 months within a 12 month period) so only paying for the one in use.
So in the end, it is not an situation to be escalated. Bottom line address can no longer be changed unless an actual move.

We have no idea if the new partner will or will not allow RVers to change the service address.

RV options and equipment direction are some of the big questions for the new co-owner. Hope it will be some good answers when they come.

Interesting perspectives from all whom responded. 2 years ago when we had the DTV installed it was for the purpose of using full time in our Motorcoach. If they (AT&T, Direct TV or this New Co-Owner) decide to not grant service address changes there appears to be no other alternative with DTV.
Streaming content is a very competitive market today vs even 2 years ago. Just requires some additional arrangements for more stable internet connection in our mobile environment.
This explains a lot on why DTV Tech support, Movers and Loyalty have been tongue tied and want to keep pushing the time to fix the issue perhaps to keep me on the line until my 24 months lapses.
Too bad really, there a quite a few RVs out there that still use DTV in the manner I do uh or did...

Not for long as most RVs have the MPEG2 SD only dishes that will be obsolete when DTV finishes the MPEG2 SD channels shut down unless they pay to upgrade the dish and add MPEG4 receivers.

A lot of RV users have outdated MPEG-2/SD-only setups. They will be without service soon if not already anyway as those old feeds complete shutting down.
Apparently a lot of RV equipment suppliers have been selling old MPEG-2 dishes and such as much as they can. Guess they want to get that all unloaded while there are still a few who can use them, however short-lived that will be.
Locals don't like their feeds going out of area, and states and such want their taxes, so just changing address could be working the system by the customer. DirecTV really could use a dedicated RV option allowed by the networks to resolve this. But with the MPEG-2/SD-only shutdown and migration with the new co-owner, I'm guessing it is not high priority. Never mind some local channel owners go overboard with their demands (looking at you Nexstar).
