Regional sports fee

I noticed on my billing that I'm being charged $9.99 per month for "Regional Sports Fee. What is this fee for? Can I cancel this fee without calling customer service?

Your package includes access to Regional Sports Networks.  This separate fee covers the cost of licensing this content.  As it varies from market to market (depending on the number of teams, number of RSNs, etc.), and because they can tack on a few bucks this way ( :-) ), it's a fee separate from the base package.

The only way to get rid of it is to shift to a package that doesn't give you the RSNs.

The Regional Sports Fee covers the costs of delivering regional sports networks available in your area, including major league sports and national college channels. It applies to all programming packages that carry these networks (CHOICE and above) and cannot be canceled or removed individually. Our ENTERTAINMENT package is the only package that does not entail a Regional Sports Fee. If you are interested in changing your lineup without calling customer service, just log on to your account online to switch tiers.

@j13shef

Unfortunately you cannot cancel the fee.

Packages Choice and higher include your Regional Sports Networks (RSNs) for where you live. Used to be the RSN fee was hidden in the package cost, but a few years ago increase in costs and bigger differences between regions, DirecTV now itemizes it which makes it transparent for ust customers.

Depending what has been grandfathered or only available through customer support, the packages without RSNs have been: Family, Select, Entertainment, Preferred Xtra.
