Promotions
I have noticed every month my Direct TV bill is different. I also noticed a movies package on my bill. I have had the same packages since early 2000's, Direct TV, before AT&T. Long time customer. Calling they said I added a promotional package in February. No, I called in February to get an amount, because i didn't get a bill. Talking to the representative, I also found out they billed me $5.00 for a reprint. I didn't ask for a reprint, just a $ amount. I looked back at previous statements and saw where I was charged a prorated amount for a package ending, in May. I did not order an additional package. I asked for them to credit me the 23.66 the total that I have paid for this package. They said absolutely not. They would cancel the subscription (that I did not order) and it would be prorated. I am currently looking into other options, as this was mainly for my mother. I'm sure with a bill over 250 every month, I can find something. They definitely aren't the company they use to be.

Outside of the annual price adjustment (new rates based on increasing costs from networks), the bill should be consistent.
Calling and asking for an amount and they selected a reprint? Unless you got a new agent who chose the wrong option that sounds like they misunderstood what you wanted. With the change in DirecTV's ownership I would be very simple and clear on wording anytime you call (though I would suggest in general as call center agents are overworked by high call volume and required to keep their Average Call/Handle Time low).
Any add-on packs like that do not start/stop automatically. They have to be added (call-in, website, app, or from the DirecTV box itself) and removed (by call-in). They should have been able to see what method added it so you could take precautions (especially if you have a household member adding things without your permission, even if by accident such as with the remote).
I would suggest anytime you contact a company (not just DirecTV) review the next bill that produces after that. That way you can verify any changes made were as expected and no unexpected ones. If you did make changes, I would look at the next bill as well since the 1st would show proration for anything mid-cycle and the 2nd regular bill going forward. Beyond that, at least look at the amount each month. That way when you notice a change you can review it then and there instead of months later (or years for some inattentive people).
Yes we want our bills correct, but there is an amount of responsibility on our side to do our due diligence. Most companies have an expectation of being notified of any bill disputes within a reasonable time, which for DirecTV is 60 days.
With the couple charges hopefully that is the end of it and not the norm of issues. I would still review bills on a decent regular basis. Since you mention having the same package for about 20 years, good chance a current package would be a better fit. Some channels moved to lower costing packages they used to be in, and other channels which required a higher package no longer exist. So I would review the channels you watch and see what current package has them to see if you could move to a lower costing package.

Had I not been in the hospital with my mother most of the month with my mother in complete organ failure and sepsis, I probably would have caught it. It was the following bill that I called I told them I did not order the movies extra package. I even phoned back a few days later where I found out the deleted the HBO also that I have had since it was DirectTV the first time. There was for years, a nblock placed on the account where nothing can be ordered off of the TVs. It is my husband, and myself now. The block was never set up with a pass code and I know I never called to request it removed. The point. $23 66 that Direct TV placed on my account and tried to balance it out by removing something I didn't request be removed. Not a misunderstanding when the dollar amount for the package was even mentioned along with the name of the package. DirecTV had my account prior to AT&T so I am not new to them. I do expect the great service as before they became AT&T and even as good of service as what AT&T gave.

There hasn't been an official way to block orders from the TV on the account side. Some agents would remove line items on the account side for oppv/ippv (so locking out from ordering ppvs from the system or from the remote/impulse ppv) to try and make things not work, but later updates or system refreshes can fix it to put the account back to the status it is supposed to be in.
You can set parental controls on each TV, such as setting spending limits to $0 (as it is per PPV, not a running total or monthly limit). But do not expect an account side restriction.
I want DirecTV to return to their strong reputation before AT&T had acquired them. However, to expect it to be the same now that AT&T is gone is a bit unrealistic as we are dealing with another new company that hasn't built up their reputation yet for how DirecTV will be going forward. I have hopes, but from experience those hopes are with caution.
Life can hit hard. I hope your mother is doing better. To most businesses, it remains the consumer's responsibility to review your bills. They don't often make concessions in those situations. Certainly appreciated when they do, just don't expect them.
I do still suggest for you and your husband to review the channels you enjoy to make sure you're not paying for a higher package than you use. And sometimes any promotion discounts that might be available are not eligible on grandfathered packages, since TV companies have to pay for packages that are outside their current agreements with the networks. Just something to consider.

It is already set to 0 and there is a passcode for each that was originally set up by direct TV before AT&T that I did not want to know. So, no one here I ows that said passcode. I would have needed to call them to have it straightened out. There was a service guy here that helped with all of that. All I know is what they said, and there have been people here in the past, and my bill never changed. There was no one here that could have or would have tried to add that package, nor did anyone request to drop HBO. Anyone can look down on the person that has had the said service for around 15 years with no issues. DirecTV is nowhere near what they use to be.

Spending limits set on each TV only affects ordering PPV by remote. It does not change what can be ordered online or over the phone. Those additional block workarounds mentioned are for PPVs only, which HBO is not. Not saying you or your husband ordered the change (even accidentally), just clarifying there is no complete block you want.
I would hope DirecTV corrects anything put on the account in error. But they do have the expectation to be notified in a reasonable time of any billing issues, which per the ToS has been 60 days. It matters not if your account is 1 year, 10, or over 20.
This is a public forum of other customers. To respond to DirecTV you use the DM chat you were in, if they initiated one. Anything you post outside that DM might not affect your situation so best to be sure that you are communicating in the correct venue. Very rarely do they call. If you refuse to call them or continue with the official DM, then you run the risk of any dispute ending.
