Loyalty discounts for DirecTV

I've been a DirecTV customer for 14 years.

Now in May 2022 they no longer give loyalty credits for DirecTV customers.

So on May 4th 2022, I scheduled service cancellation for May 25th 2022.

I get a call from a DirecTV representative on May 5th at 9:30 am.

Rep asks why I want to cancel,  I tell her DirecTV no longer gives loyalty discounts and spectrum has a lower offer for the same package I get at DirecTV but for $65 lower cost per month for 12 months. And after 12 months my cost from spectrum will still he $35 per month lower than my current DirecTV account.  AND NO CONTRACTS  !!!

So the rep try's to sell me a low budget family package that they list nowhere for you to see. It basically has  25 chanels.

And its $65.

I tell the rep I want my existing package I have now of 125 channels with a loyalty discount or I'm cutting ties with DirecTV.  She said she will look into it and call by the end of the day.

Well now at 5:20pm guess who calls, a different DirecTV rep, and she gives me the story and tries to sell me the 25 chanel family package for $65 a month and a $100 Visa card.

I tell her I want my existing package with a loyalty discount or I'm cancelling my service.

She said she could only offer me a $100 Visa card to keep me existing service.

I told her that At&t has ruined DirecTV  and now it cant even find a buyer to buy out the DirecTV as a whole.

I told her I will be cancelling my services as scheduled and will go to Spectrum for my services.

She thanked me for being a DirecTV customer said have a nice day , goodbye and hung up.

So needless to say, SPECTRUM,  when you call on friday may 6th, 2022, I will be ordering my new tv service.

AT&T. HAS TRULY  RUINED DIRECTV AND IM JUST ANOTHER ONE OF MILLIONS OF CUSTOMERS WHOM HAVE LEFT DIRECTV.

Networks have increased their costs over the years. On top of that, DirecTV had an issue of too much given out in discounts for too long. The concern was having customers who were close to operating at a loss, some of which were.

As such the CEO announced a while back those discounts would be pulled back to address the situation. It is expected that as everything starts balancing out that discounts would return, but in moderation. They are a temporary perk, not something to enjoy forever. Choosing a level of service that is right for you is the priority. Certainly, ask if discounts are available, but understand they will not always be there and budget for full cost.

The Family package is $29.99. That is just the package cost itself. Your $65 must be account for TV fees, receiver services, anything optional, and possibly taxes. The package is not advertised online, though is listed online in their channel lineup for comparison.

Nothing you stated is an example of AT&T "ruining" DirecTV. Just shows you are upset that no more discounts, so gravy train is over. And if it truly were "needless to say", then seemed ridiculous to say it to the entire world.

As a note, cancellations are the end of your service month which you pay the entirety for. An install date with another service provider does not change that. So, if you pay for overlapping dates that will be on you.

Explain why at&t has in the last 6 years since inquiring DirecTV has lost close to 10 million DirecTV customers.

It not due to loyalty discounts  its at@t's agreed to gouge its customers.

Why can Sirius radio retain me as a customer for the low amout of $20 for a 5 month period, and for the last 3 years I've been with Sirius radio I always ask fir the 5month $20 deal and I get it.

Its because Sirius radio knows that $20 is a far greater amount than $0.00 dollars per customer.

AT&T has chewed off the hands that has  feed it for tha past 6 years.

And now there trying to offload DirecTV and cant find a buyer to commit to a 100% buyout.

AT&T should change irs name to GREEDT&T !!!!!

Shannon02, I have constantly fir thecpast 6 years received loyalty discounts from AT&T on my DirecTV account in fact the last discount I got was for $5.00 a month for 12 months on April 12th, 2022.

So now instead of getting my $70.00 per month after loyalty discounts,  At&t will now get $0.00 a month from me.

So do the math and figure out how much 10 million customers adds up to in lost revenue in the past 6 years.

Hmmmmmmmmm

Satellite radio and satellite TV are far from a fair comparison. Networks and all the shows require way more money than radio ever has.

I will say that AT&T bit off more than it can chew when it acquired DirecTV. The acquisition was too ambitious. So now they have a co-owner while maintaining 70% ownership. I wouldn't expect any huge changes to the billing model and costs, but perhaps they will get a better direction on equipment.

There is no value in giving discounts if you are not making a profit. Satellite TV is luxury entertainment, not a cheap service. You are now seeing the reality of what the service actually costs, which coming from too long in discounts is understandably a bit of a shock.

Discounts are not obligated by any company. If you cannot afford service without discounts, then you cannot afford it and it is your responsibility to reduce service until within a comfortable budget. These businesses are not charities.

My Loyalty discount just ended.  I have called numbers on the internet and they are no longer in service.  I have been a customer for over 20 years.  I need the discount or I will have to cancel.  It's bad enough that they took off ABC Network.

AT&T sold off 30% of DTV so I would think that most AT&T numbers will no longer work but 1-800-531-5000 has been DTV number since they started.  As stated AT&T CEO stated long ago there will be no more discounts to existing customers.

The only reason ABC would be taken off would be due to a dispute due to the channel owner demanding more and more money from DIRECTV.

You may be able to get a discount (unlikely but worth a try) by calling DIRECTV ( number in my greeting below) and saying ‘cancel’ to the robot. That sends you to the loyalty/retention department where an agent can assist and perhaps give you one to keep you as a customer.

Call DirecTV and discuss your channels and compare them against lower costing packages. Absolutely ask if a discount is available, just be prepared there might not be. Years of loyalty doesn't entitle you to a discount, but might give a better chance for one. If you end up needing to cancel, then fair enough. You must make the right decision for your budget. TV is nice, but in the end is just optional entertainment.

As for ABC, the network itself is not off. Most likely your local affiliate channel of ABC is going through carriage negotiations. When this happens it is not DirecTV that takes off the channel. When the existing agreement ends the channel owner can choose to remove the feed or leave it on while negotiations continue. In recent years these local affiliates have been pulling the feed (as is their right) to try and leverage customers.

It is rare for a local affiliate to be gone indefinitely, though some negotiations do take longer than others. You can check the situation for your area on DirecTV's official lookup: https://www.directv.com/tvpromise/
