Loving the service, just one question
Good Morning Everyone,
I signed up for DIRECTV satellite service about a month ago, and overall I've been really happy with it so far.
We live in a very rural area where internet options are pretty limited. We have internet, but we're lucky if we consistently get around 50 Mbps. Because of that, streaming TV just didn't make much sense for us, especially with five TVs in the house, two of which are 4K. We decided to go with the traditional satellite service instead, and we have the latest equipment installed.
So far, everything has been working great. The picture quality is excellent, everything has been reliable, and we're really enjoying it. The price is a little on the expensive side, but our options are pretty limited where we live, so it's worth it for us.
Honestly, one of the unexpected things I've enjoyed most is the nostalgia. Growing up in the early 2000s, my family had DIRECTV, so having it again brings back a lot of good memories. There's just something about using the satellite receivers and channel surfing that feels familiar.
That said, I do have one question about billing.
When we signed up, our bill due date ended up falling about five days before we're actually able to pay it each month. I understand there will probably be a late fee, and I know due dates can't always be changed with every service.
My question is: should I be worried about that five-day gap every month? Is there any grace period before service is interrupted, or is there a way to request a different due date? If I'd known how the billing lined up, I probably would have waited another week before signing up, but that was simply an oversight on my part.
I'm just trying to avoid any unnecessary headaches going forward. I'd appreciate any advice from those who have been with DIRECTV for a while.
Thanks in advance!

Good news! DIRECTV customer support can change your billing cycle date, which will move your due date to a day that works better for you. Here is the lowdown on how it all works:
Moving the Date: Shifting the cycle start date moves the payment due date with it, eliminating that five-day gap for future bills.
Late Fees Still Apply: Until a date change is officially requested and takes effect, paying after the current due date will still incur a late fee on the next bill.
No Immediate Shutoffs: Service won't get cut off over a short five-day delay. Disconnections usually don't happen unless the account rolls into a new billing month without a payment.

If you're able to pay and have it posted to the account before the cycle starts over then you are fine.
Day 1 cycle starts
Day 2 bill generates and mails (paid if on auto bill pay)
Day 20 is listed due date
Day 21+ payment reminders
Day 1 of new cycle, if any balance remains it is now officially past due
Day 2 of new cycle, bill produces with late fee and listed date service would be shut off if past due remains
So it is about a 10 day grace period built in.
Historically you cannot change your billing dates. It is based on the day your account was activated. If that has changed, be aware changing the billing date can result in a higher bill as you deal with a full bill plus partial charges covering the dates in-between the old and new cycle.
