I am a DirecTV customer and an AT&T customer, but I cannot log in to DirecTV using password used for both

I am a customer of both, and used to be able to sign in under one login to see both accounts. Now when I sign in to AT&T I only see my Internet account, and when I try to sign into DirecTV I get an error. How do I solve this?

AT&T sold DirecTV last year. While that transaction is still completing, they separated the websites. You will need to use a different info to log into your DirecTV account because of issues separating the unified login (similar to issues when AT&T acquired DirecTV and combined the logins).

If you cannot rest the login info on DirecTV's website, you will need to call customer support (DirecTV) to reset the online access to be like initial setup to access your account.

I need to use the same email for both as it is my main email account. Can I use the same email address but just change the password for one of the accounts? Would that be enough? If I need to use a whole new email address, would I be able to set it up using a throwaway email address that I use for catching spam, and then go back later and change the email to my real one?

You need to change the email, not the password. Just login to your DirecTV account and change the email to another address. This is a long known issue with the service and its past ties with AT&T. Heavy documented in 100's of posts in the forums.

Actually I was getting the error even trying to login with my longtime DirecTV credentials. I guess I will have to call them. This is the first time I have ever needed help from the forums, so I haven’t seen prior discussions.

Just to follow up with anyone who might want to know the resolution—

I was unable to login to DirecTV and even got a warning that my account was going to get locked if I tried again, so I called them and they quickly and easily sent me a password reset link. After resetting the password I have no problems. No need to have a separate email for AT&T and DirecTV accounts.
