Fanduel Bankruptcy

Now that Fanduel is days away from bankruptcy and so many sports teams have canceled their contracts with them, does anyone know what DirecTV's plans are to address their RSN coverage? We have a $17.99 mandatory RSN charge each month and wonder if we will be required to continue paying it?

Hey, @WNCcmd. The Regional Sports Fee is a bundled charge that covers multiple networks, teams and sports. It will not be reduced should a team broadcast via a different avenue. John, DIRECTV Community Team

The ENTIRE Fanduel network is slated for bankruptcy so shouldn't there at least be a reduction in RSN monthly fees if all the Fanduel channels are no longer available? (Based on our zip code we have 4 bundled channels classified as RSN's...3 Fanduels and 1 MASN. Hate to be paying $17.99 for 1 MASN channel).

If there are only 4 RSNs total, and 3 shutdown, it makes sense that it would affect the RSN Fee. However, it would not expect to be instant so this is something that would probably get kicked down the road for when they do their next price adjustment. Assuming no other RSNs come in to your availability.

Just what I'm thinking, not a guarantee it would work that way.

I have U-Verse. What happened for me when the Guardians' FanDuel channel shut down was that I got a channel that just shows Guardians baseball and nothing else.

I'd imagine there's a fee for this channel.

It sounds like similar situations will happen with other teams starting their own channels. Some teams may go to existing channels like an ABC subchannel, a CW affiliate or such.

If any team in your area starts their own channel, I would not expect a reduction in rates.

What you can do is call DirecTV, politely threaten to cancel and they may be able to reduce your rates or give you free programming for a short term. Be sure to write down the date your promotions end, as you won't be reminded and free trials won't automatically cancel.

Nationals.tv won't be added until closer to the first game because...carriage fees.
