broken email billing

For close to 3 yrs I have been forced to wage an all out war just so I can pay my bill. ATT keeps  saying they don't own Directv anymore. That is a lie of  course. Why else would ALL the bills come from ATT and the checks are made out  to ATT but then when there's a problem it's all about Directv. In other words as a customer good luck tying to find anyone anywhere who knows anything but their own name and how to say "I know how frustrating that can be" (another lie) and in the end are prevented at all costs to help anyone.

But I have NEVER HEARD OF A GREEDY COMPANY THAT IS UNABLE TO BILL AND TAKE MONEY THEN REFUSE TO HELP YOU. Their entire system especially the worthless (Edited per community guidelines) chat bot only makes things worse.

The other issue is that they also refuse to keep a record of ongoing issues so I have to keep repeating myself going on for close to 3 yrs now and I still blocked from paying me bill and no one who knows anything is just that so why are they there? Why won't ATT or Directv allow me to pay my bill? Why under no circumstances will they ever get someone of importance to call me ? Why won't they fix this simple problem? Why do they tell their people to NEVER answer any kind of question no matter what?

AT&T no longer owns DIRECTV.  This is truth.

AT&T may send you bills under combined billing arrangement, even though they no longer own DIRECTV.  Phone companies have been doing that for over 30 years (going back to the USSB days).

You can disconnect your service ordered through AT&T and subscribe directly through DIRECTV and remove the middle man.

AT&T sold DirecTV last year but that transaction only completed last month. So it is true that AT&T no longer owns DirecTV.

Your bill should only be from AT&T if it is a combined bill. Even before AT&T originally acquired DirecTV, they were joint bill partners. This meant you could have your DirecTV bill sent to AT&T and you receive one bill for AT&T and DirecTV together even though they were separate services (and once again different companies). Just like you could do for CenturyLink, Qwest, Verizon, Mediacom, etc. (though partners have changed over the years).

Personally I avoid joint bills between companies. If I want to make a single payment, I have my regular monthly bills on autopay and then I just make one payment to my card account. That way if I have questions or want to review my billing, it is a much easier read as a joint bill doesn't have the specifics for the other company and is instead summarized.

With that info hopefully cleared up, with some added perspective, what is the issue you're having paying the bill in the first place? If you detail the issues you allude to, perhaps we could help guide to a solution or at least an improved experience.

Chats are not recorded to your account.

If you call, their system captures a key general reason. It is up to the agent to type in the specifics of the situation (what was discussed, any issues/resolution, changes made, etc.)

However, if through online chat those transcripts do not get saved to your account. That plus questionable info through that method and I suggest only calling support or trying the forum for guidance from other users (or the lucky help from the official help team).

@oggilby, apologies for the experience you are having with our customer service.  The community members are correct.  AT&T no longer owns DIRECTV and as of July 2nd of this year, DIRECTV is solely owned by TPG.  If you have both DIRECTV and AT&T services in a combined bill format, then AT&T still bills for the DIRECTV services.  The DIRECTV Office of the President will be reaching out to you within 24-48 business hours to address your concerns.  They will be only able to assist with the DIRECTV services.
