Billing
I wanted to share my experience as a long-time customer and express my disappointment with the retention process.
After 25 years of continuous service, I contacted DIRECTV to discuss my options due to the steadily increasing cost of my monthly bill, which had reached approximately $240. As a loyal customer, I was hoping for a meaningful effort to retain my business—something that reflected the length and value of that relationship.
Unfortunately, the only option presented was a reduction of about $58, leaving the monthly cost at $178. While I appreciate that an offer was made, it did not feel competitive with current market alternatives or reflective of my long-term loyalty.
We truly would have preferred to stay. DIRECTV provides a familiar experience—the ease and nostalgia of channel flipping—that we’ve always appreciated over the years. However, at that price point, it simply wasn’t justifiable to continue.
Given the availability of more flexible and cost-effective streaming options, this ultimately made my decision to cancel service straightforward. It was not a decision I made lightly after 25 years, but the value no longer aligned.
I’m sharing this feedback in hopes that it is taken into consideration moving forward. Long-term customers expect to feel valued, especially when reaching out in good faith to explore options before canceling.
Thank you.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts and regret seeing you leave after 25 years, @Yvusjm. DIRECTV works hard to offer the best value, which is becoming tougher as costs and competition continue to rise. Companies do not stay in business by discount service to the point they are losing money. Satellite service isn't cheap. Doesn't matter how long you've been a customer.
If any promotions (which are never guaranteed to always be available), and/or reducing service to within budget (perhaps you are in a higher plan than you actually use, something too many people don't review), than you'll have to make some choices.
Just a realistic perspective. If you can't afford without discounts, than you cannot afford it and should make the changes that work for you. Though a company should be competitive, there is still the matter of staying profitable so they can only do so much. And realistically, reducing cost by $58 is not something to expect they can do long term as that is a huge discount.
Sorry but your expectation of how much for them to lower the bill was unreasonable. Going somewhere that better fit your personal needs was the right and realistic choice.
