Account responsibility

My husband and I are separating and he is currently on the account for DirecTV. I will be remaining in the home and want to take over the account. How can I go about transferring it from him to me?

You can't,  He has to close the account and return the receivers if returnable, then you open a new account in your name unless he dies before then.

Unfortunately DirecTV has no change of responsibility option. The only exception is a surviving spouse may take over the account.

So if your husband is the account owner, he will need to call DirecTV to either cancel the account or place a Movers order to have his boxes setup at the new place. Once that is done, you call DirecTV and apply for service.
