Streaming Device keeps failing

We recently purchased the stream device w/remote.  However lately when we turn the tv on, the port where the device was plugged into shows as blank and the remote is not functional.  We resolved this once by unplugging it - and keeping it unplugged for over 30 minutes, then everything worked again.  However this has become a reoccurring problem and starting over from scratch is not an acceptable solution.
