Are they rebranding our Osprey boxes to Gemini Boxes ?
I just checked my account and noticed that they now list my Osprey boxes that I bought and own from AT&T when I signed up as Gemini Boxes. Is it just part of the new management ? Is it part of the new restructure, or does it have no meaning at all ?
Something New.

Hi u/Glenee. We're rebranding our services! Our devices are now called GEMINI. With these changes, we're looking to align the SATELLITE and STREAM services. Check out more information about our new device here https://www.directv.com/technology/. Thank you for choosing DIRECTV. Luisa, DIRECTV Community Specialist

Dtv Stream Osprey boxes and Dtv Satellite are calling their streaming players Gemini. They are also Beta testing a Gemini Air dongle.

Thanks. I thought they may be devising a way to charge us for our owned boxes.

Apparently this is even causing confusion within Directv. I bought a $49.95 refurb box directly from my stream account but the box they shipped me only works with satellite. Someone said the boxes are identical in appearance and part numbers but the firmware within them make them work either as a standalone streamer or as a satellite (which requires another device in order to work).
Wasted 2+ hours trying to get it to work. Sent it back for a refund. Will roll the dice and get one off eBay (yes, I know it may not work but neither did the one I bought from Directv so it is a gamble either way).

This is why they need to put the same firmware on both Dtv Stream and Dtv Satellite boxes. Since they are going to call them both Gemini---it would help if they used the same software. I'm pretty sure that will happen eventually.

@wilcojunohotel Yes, Directv is using the same device for streaming and Sat. service and yes, it is causing a lot of confusion. There have been many cases of stream customers getting the sat. version (like you) and sat. customers are getting the streaming version. In my opinion, it was not a good change and they should not have tried to use the same box for Sat customers or somehow made them different so there would be no confusion! Hopefully, with time they can work out their kinks and get better. If you buy one from EBAY make sure that the seller excepts returns so if it does not work you can send it back.

Amazon also sells them for 79.99. I'd trust Amazon more--in case you need to return it.
