Apple TV app remote sensitivity

I have been having extreme difficulty navigating the Directv app on two different Apple TV's. The app responds slowly to remote input, and often decides to move the cursor in completely different directions to what is input on the remote. I have encountered this issue on two different Apple TV units with two different styles of remote (solely touchpad navigation and button navigation) and when using an iPhone as a remote. Is there an app update planned for the future to solve this issue? It takes multiple minutes to search and select a show or movie due to this UI issue.

Hi @Shedao_Shai, here to help with your app and remote issue.

Thanks for sharing this details with us. To begin with, it would be a good idea to check your app software latest updates, due to this being related directly to the app within the Apple TV's. Also, please have a look at these steps to troubleshoot the overall app performance.

Please let me know how it goes.

The app had a pending update, but the change after updating was only a marginal improvement. The UI is still rather difficult to navigate: the remote consistently  "oversteers" when I move to select something.

Hi @Shedao_Shai we want to make sure that you enjoy DIRECTV Stream on a proper way.

I am going to ask you a couple of questions to find the root cause of the issue, can you please try the DIRECTV App in a different device besides iOS. Also, are you getting any error code at the launch the app?

Thank you in advance.

I do not get an error on launching the app. The only devices that I have with the app are my AppleTV (and the one at my parents house) and my iPhone, I don't have a non-iOS device with the app. The app on my iPhone works fine, it is just an issue on AppleTV.

Just the nature of Apple products. The remote is very sensitive. Not an DirecTV Stream issue but an Apple remote issue.

The thing is, it happens regardless if I use a physical remote with a touch OR physical navigation buttons, or my iPhone as a remote. It seems odd to me that this issue would persist even with a physical 1-click-1-movement style remote or a virtual remote on my phone

We appreciate the details @Shedao_Shai

Please follow the next steps in order to troubleshoot the DIRECTV App on your Apple TV:

1. From the Apple TV home menu, select Settings, then Apps and Manage Installed Apps.
2. Choose DIRECTV STREAM.
3. Select Clear Cache and Clear Data.
4. Turn off your Apple TV for at least 30 seconds and turn it back on.
5. Delete and reinstall the DIRECTV STREAM App.

Let us know how it goes.

From settings > apps there is no manage installed apps setting, when in settings >appps > Directv Stream there is no clear cache and data setting.

Deleted and reinstalled the app from the home menu and restarted the Apple TV, issue still persists. Apple TV software is up to date.

I have the exact problem the original poster was describing. We’re you able to find a fix?

This also happens to me, a new DirectTV streaming service subscriber. The Apple TV remote works fine with 99% of apps, and this is the worst I've ever seen. It takes SO long to manipulate the programming, whether it's choosing a program from DVR or Live TV or playing a DVR recording. It's quite comical and a huge problem, which is causing me to rethink whether I should actually keep DirectTV Streaming instead of my cable service. I'm glad I left myself a month to test this out before cancelling my cable service. I still have not decided, and this will be the big issue that causes me to cancel if it's not fixed or addressed adequately.

The remote has always been an issue with the service. Little improvement over the years, and don't expect much to change in the near future.

Definitely worst app experience ever on any AppleTV app I’ve ever tried. They must know it’s bad, they clearly don’t care. Been like this for almost two years.

- super lag makes navigating anything in the menus super frustrating.
- towards end of live game recordings, fast forward stops working and jacks you back 5 minutes or more then won’t let you get back to where you were.

- forget trying to scrub any playback. Like using a sledgehammer vs scalpel and bounces wildly ahead or behind.

I’ve given up hope of a fix, I’ve resorted to buying a remote with physical buttons to get around using a touchpad for control as that seems to be the crux of the issue
