One Account/Two Homes/Multiple Devices?

I'm exploring DirectTV Stream. I have a primary residence and a vacation house in another city (same state). In my primary home I have 4 TV's, each with dedicated AppleTV devices. In my vacation home I have 3 TV's, each with dedicated AppleTV devices. I'm not interested in multiple simultaneous streaming capability since it would be very rare that more than 1-2 people are streaming at the same time.

Question: Can ONE account (at my primary residence) service BOTH houses?

Question: If yes, can I set up different local channels? A set for primary residence, and different set for my vacation location?

Thanks!

1. Yes. One account can be used at multiple locations. I'm currently using my account while traveling in our RV. You are limited to 3 streaming devices outside of your home network location, though.

2. The local channels question is a bit trickier. It depends on how your streaming device handles geolocation information. For example, my Roku always shows my home location (Seattle) stations no matter where I'm located. But my iPad will show the locals for my actual physical location.  I'm not sure how Apple TV devices handle that, but I'm guessing it's like the Roku.

Apple uses location services. That is how they know where you are located. You should see the traveling location locals.

Just a note: When traveling, you only have access to 3 streams, of which only 2 of them can be used with streaming devices. So that limits the Apple devices to 2 streams.

OK, this is super helpful...and gets me closer to making a decision. Looks like I can mostly get what I'm looking for.

I'm a bit confused on the last comment from bcbsncjlj on streams and streaming devices (sorry, I'm just not getting the difference). Don't you need a DEVICE in order to stream? When away from home, how can you access 3 streams if you can only use 2 devices? Are you saying that I can only have 2 of the TV's at the vacation house able to stream?

Again, I'm not worried about simultaneous streaming. I just want to verify that I can set up 3 TV's (vacation house) each with a dedicated AppleTV with the app to access DirectTV Stream.

Thanks again!

You can set them up on any number of devices but only 2 streaming  devices can be active out of home.

So here’s my understanding on your last post. I can have the DirectTV Stream app set up on all 3 AppleTV devices away from home, but only 2 of them can be ‘active’ simultaneously. I can use any of the 3 devices as long as I’m only using 1-2 ‘active’ at a time. Please correct me if I have this wrong.

thanks!!

No you can have 3 active at a time but only 2 can be true streaming devices. You can have 3 mobile devices active at a time.

Do the travel devices record the local or home network broadcasts?

If the home is set to EST, can the recordings be watched live or early if traveling in a PST location?

Thanks!

Hello, @Anon824 . thanks for contacting us.

You can review the steps to record and watch your favorite shows.

Also, your local channel availability is based on your billing zip code.

In case you travel, you can still watch your local channels. Make sure you enable location service on your mobile device, so you can stream.

We're here to help!

When traveling, DirecTV Stream will only record shows from your homebase local stations, not the locals at your current location. It may appear that you're able to setup recordings on those location stations, but they won't record.

@DIRECTVhelp , Question based on your recent comment...'local channel availability is based on your billing zip code'.

If I'm accessing DirectTV from a vacation home...will I be able to watch local channels in that city?...different from my primary residence (billing address)?? I'm looking for 2 sets of local channels based on 2 locations. Possible?

Local channels are based on your home zip code and CC billing info. As far as watching locals in a traveling city, it depends on if your device has location services or GPS. Otherwise, you will receive your default locals (your home based). Roku and Fire Sticks do not have location services or GPS. Mobile devices do, and you will receive the traveling locals. Of course, this all depends on if DirecTV Stream has broadcasting rights for the traveling networks.

Yes, you can watch that city's local channels, provided you're using a streaming device that supports "location services", such as an iPad or Apple TV.
