I am paying for services I am not using!

I switched to ATT on September 7th to give then a try. - Direct TV, Direct Stream, U-Verse or whatever they call it. Cant figure out what is what. The internet was great and customer service was exceptional but the TV was disappointing. It would not stay connected to our sound bars, the channels would not load, the channels were less than stellar among other things. We decided to go back to our other provider and now I have to pay the remainder of the month - Nov. 15th - December 7th and we are not using the services. In conjunction, I have to pay $480.00 and I was not under a contract. The 4 TV boxes that we have, we now own and are useless. ATT told me to throw them away. Isn't that being irresponsible and filling our landfills fill cables, chips and plastic that can be reused. ATT says its a one and done. The boxes can not be recirculated back into their system. WHAT?? How does that make sense? That is not being a good steward of resources. I just want to return the equipment that I had for only 45 days, let someone else use them and walk away without paying for unsatisfactory service.

DirecTV, DirecTV Stream, and U-Verse are three different services.  You really should know what you ordered to get best use of the service and to provide useful feedback to others who may be evaluating one of the services.

Since you purchased the $120 boxes, then I can tell you that you do have DIRECTV stream.  Yes, you purchased them.  They are yours.  Some people have had success listing them on eBay.  DIRECTV will not take them back, but that doesn't mean that they're unusable.  As far as I know they will function as a Android TV box even without active DIRECTV stream service.

Neither DIRECTV nor DIRECTV stream (nor U-verse TV for that matter) prorate the final month of services, whether you disconnect on the 10th or the 28th day of service, you will not get credit for the remaining month.  When you switched to DIRECTV stream, did your previous provider give you a credit for the remainder of your last month?  If so, who is that, because they're becoming a dying breed in the video industry?

To be clear, I'm not saying DIRECTV policies are right or wrong.  I'm just documenting what they are.  By the way, it's nice to see you again, badexperience3, I'm glad you found your way over to the forum for DIRECTV stream.

I am not sure this is the right platform or forum to use. Anyone know of a contact number for their headquarters?

If we posted contact information other than what is available through the Contact Us link, it would be removed.

I'm not sure what it is you expect them to do for you.

JefferMC - Do you work for ATT? You are all over their site. Everywhere I post you are there. You seem to be well versed in ATT so you seem to be the man in the know. I want them to take their boxes back, not make me pay for them and re-use them so they dont end up in a landfill.

They are not going to do that.  They sold them to you.  They are yours.  List them on eBay.

So you do work for ATT.  What is an ACE expert anyway?

JefferMC - I am not trying to challenge you. All the points you made are accurate. I thank you for your honest answers about how to dispose of the unused boxes. Its hard for someone my age (55) to accept that something cant be done through ATT.

Yes I forgot my old password so I signed up here and I found my way over to this proper platform. I don't like computers and dont have social media so this is all foreign to me .

No, I do not work for AT&T or the DIRECTV spin off.  I am an AT&T customer who got help from the then members of then AT&T U-verse Community forum and have been participating in the hopes of helping others ever since.

An ACE is a recognition in the community for someone that has been helpful to others in the community during the preceding year.  "Expert" is a community rank based on my activity since I joined.  More information about both may be found under the  Community How-To link, which appears at the bottom of each page.

Also, I should mention this part of the Community Guidelines that you agreed to follow when you signed up for your forum account:

Other inappropriate or unacceptable behavior includes: ... c) double-posting or cross-posting;

Repeatedly posting the same text over and over again will likely result in those duplicate posts being removed and possibly an account suspension or ban.

Again.. You are well versed in everything ATT for sure. Nicely done. Clearly you are being compensated in some way.. None of my business. I see that you were able to get my post sent to a "private Chat" so we can work out a resolution.

I know when I am being outplayed by someone much smarter than me on this platform. I will cease from responding ... UNLESS ATT does not get back to me as they promised.

Then I will seek other platforms to let people know of ATT and my experience.

WELL PLAYED JefferMC... well played.

Actually, I had nothing to do with that.  But I am glad that you are in contact with DIRECTV support.  Perhaps they can do something for you.

As for " being compensated in some way", you can see in the How To that ACEs receive occasional "non cash gifts" such as cups, cookies, etc.  Appreciated, but not enough to make me not tell it like it is.  You will see me excoriating AT&T about such things as the mess they've made of the free McAfee Internet Security software, etc.
