Home Location Keeps Dropping Every Time IP Address Changes

Our internet IP address changes often. We have Windstream internet service. Direct TV Stream requires a static IP address, otherwise, our Home Location keeps dropping whenever the IP address for our internet changes. The problem this causes is we can only use two TV's at a time (rather than our three at the same time) until our Home Location is reset. Direct TV will only let you reset the home location 4 times in a 12 month period. They have actually reset it after 4, but it requires calling them and it usually is a process where they want to go through a very lengthy process before they realize what they have been trained to do does not resolve the issue. Very few technical support people understand the problem and it usually requires a lengthy explanation and them getting in touch with a supervisor (and waiting on hold for them for several minutes) before they will come back and reset the 4 resets to zero.  I am on the phone now with Windstream to see if they can offer a static IP address. However, I understand that if they do offer it there may be a monthly fee. Good grief. This is ridiculous. Direct TV should not have a four reset limit if they aren't going to fix the problem. Has anyone else experienced this?

Of course, a lot of subscribers have experienced the problem. Blame your ISP for continuing to change your location. It's not DirecTV Stream problem but your ISP. No, you do not need a static IP if your ISP treated your IP address correctly. If you can't resolve the issue with your ISP, then seek another service. Just be aware that they all have some form of means in determining your location.

Yes, it's a windstream issue. They should not be changing your IP address all the time.

Windstream said they would give me a static IP address for a $20 fee each month. Isn't that ridiculous. Unfortunately we don't have much option for internet service where we live.

For that price, I would go with another service like YouTube TV.

@Kdub021 The issue is not your home network, but the modem IP supplied by the ISP.
