DirecTV Stream Unlimited DVR is now Free but I am still paying $10/mo

I have been told that the only way to get the FREE DVR is to open a new account. The current "promotion" provides a discount of $15/month discount for the package for 2 month, but the Unlimited DVR is forever.

I can not see the logic in making current customers cancel their account and re-sign up to save $10. I know that the $15 off is for new customers, but I don't care about that. It is the $10/mo for the DVR which is now free. Not very good customer service.

Has anyone found a way around this without canceling your current account.

I complained to Dtv support/help on twitter and they gave me 1 yr of Unlimited DVR for free.

I am waiting from a call back from a support supervisor, but it sounds like you will have to start paying for DVR again in a year. The only reason I don't cancel and open a new account is because I will lose all my DVR settings.

Is there a way to display the DVR series list so I can at least write them down?

@JBT4 you can try the retention department for DIRECTV STREAM. Perhaps they can give you the same or a similar solution to what @Ludwick577 was given via Twitter.

Their number is in my greeting below. When being asked what product you are referring to, be sure to say 'DIRECTV STREAM' and not just plain-old satellite service 'DIRECTV.' At first, you may be sent to an inexperienced agent who will not fulfill your request. In this case, you should ask for retention.

It used to be that saying "Cancel Service" when the automated system asks the purpose of the call would get to Retention/Loyalty.  Does that no longer work since the ATT/DTV split?

Great, thanks!  Anything to avoid going through the gauntlet of talking to the clueless front line people is a huge plus.
